There have been reports of a 'grey lady'. a man supposedly hanged by the Royalist Army during the Civil War and accounts of 'sudden whiffs of cigar smoke' as well as 'children laughing'. particularly in the Nursery Suite. Additionally, it has been suggested that the 'grey lady' is rumoured to be Lady Robarte's, who survived the fire of 1881 but died of shock a few days later. It has also been said that the Smoking Room at Lanhydrock House is haunted by her husband, Thomas James Robarte's, who died one year after his wife from a broken heart.
Whilst Lanhydrock is one famous haunted hotspot in Cornwall, there are many others all over the county, each with their own haunted legends. Jamaica Inn is said to be one of the most haunted places in Britain, with a number of resident ghosts inhabiting certain areas of the inn. The inn has served many visitors over the years, and has been an area of public interest to the likes of Alfred Hitchcock and Daphne du Maurier.
Bodmin Moor has also been the
centre of haunting rumours, with suggested sightings of ghosts such as the ‘hapless
Tregeagle’ and the ghost of ‘Charlotte Dymond’, which are both reported to be
wandering around the moors. Evidence for
the ‘Beast of Bodmin’ has also been documented, with occasional reports of mutilated
livestock and abnormally large panther- like footprints.
Whilst there are many
different places in Cornwall that are rumoured to be haunted, such as Tintagel Castle
and Bodmin Jail, they all have recurring ghostly themes with paranormal characters
such as men and women who have suffered horribly tragic deaths.
Is this your DPS copy or just notes? Some good ideas to work from.
